Where to start… I have been a huge fan of the various projects of Klayton, Klank, and guests ever since I stumbled upon Argyle Park’s ‘Misguided’ CD followed by the subsequent Circle of Dust releases, remixes, and many other projects. Lets back track to AP’s ‘Misguided’ for a moment; if you do not have that release, GET IT! It is a brutal fusion of chaotic metal and industrial. Do not fear the fact it has Christian related influences for that album is more about self-exploration and the savage seas of the tempest we call ‘life’. Salvation does not even appear until the end of that CD, and even then…you might be left perplexed wondering whether or not you got the ‘message’ or are you just a forsaken soul left behind… Now…lets jump to AP2’s ‘Suspension of Disbelief’… As usual with all of the related projects, the production is meticulous and very well mixed. They all made it clear long ago that they have OCD. I can respect that. They pay homage in this release to the likes of Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, Ministry, Fear Factory, Controlled Bleeding…and even Nirvana… All of those bands are highly respected and by all means, the influences heard on this release are very well captured and highly appreciated. But…(I know…you have been waiting for the ‘but’…so here it is)… Starting off the CD with the scream ‘I’m damaged…’ set the tone for me wanting to say to Klayton, “Dude…get OVER YOURSELF…we know ALL about how you feel when it comes to the record industry and your sense of faith-n-flux as you have made it perfectly clear over and over and over and over…and over…and…over…again.” Now that I got that off my chest, I can continue… The rest of the tracks are actually very good electro industrial (except for two, which we will get to in a moment) with lots of ups, downs, highs and lows. The sad thing is that none of it is really new. It seems to be a cross between Celldweller and Klank mixed with bits of gabber and techno. It lacks the imagination of chaos, spontaneity, and raw aggression. Don’t get me wrong, there is aggression, but the aggression is more like modern Ministry; very tight and confined. Track 8, ‘The Pact’, though good, does not seem to really fit right on this album with its pseudo Native American sound. I’m just not certain about this track. Track 11, ‘The Only Man I Know’… Did you guys channel the spirit of Kurt Cobain for this one? If Nirvana had released one industrial electro rock song, THIS WOULD BE IT! As a result, it just does not even fit on this release, which is most likely why it is basically at the end of the CD. So, in closing, I love you guys and the various projects you have released. I apologize for being so critical about Suspension of Disbelief, it is just I was very excited for it and was really hoping for something new and fresh. It is a good release, but it just does not take me there like some of the prior releases under different names. Hopefully this is just a launching pad for better material to come. Maybe this was all intentional...to release something very acceptable and polished to the masses to obtain a new or broader fan base...Read full review
Being a fan of Argyle Park and industrial music, I can't help but enjoy this album. I was a little taken at the vulgarity in 'My Sympathies' being released by Tooth and Nail, a christian recording company. Although it may be appropriate, call me old fashioned but, I feel it was not necessary. (It's got nothing to do with me...) Over all, if you like industrial music you will enjoy this album.
