Fiona was born in Scotland and moved to Australia at an early age. Throughout her childhood she was strongly influenced by her Gaelic speaking grandmother once a singer with the Glasgow Orpheus Choir. Whilst growing up in Australia the arts were highly valued in her home. Though learning ballet and classical piano Fiona always loved singing. When she was in her early teens she received encouragement from the choirmistress at her convent school and this led her to pursue her singing seriously. While she avoided formal voice training she embraced folk music and began to sing professionally '-. when she was seventeen. When Odetta was on tour in Australia she heard Fiona singing and further encouraged her. She began to sing regularly at venues such as the now legendary Traynor's Folk Club, The Outpost Inn and The Dan O'Connell. Fiona became a regular feature artist at the early National Folk Festivals, along with her husband and fellow musician Kenny White. Despite early plans to move to London to pursue her singing career Fiona made a conscious decision to remain in Australia, devoting her self to raising her 6 children while still maintaining contact with the local music scene and making occasional guest appearances. Now the children have grown and moved on, giving Fiona the time and space to again concentrate on her singing. Fiona possesses a strong passionate and emotive voice which is always great to listen to, whether she is singing traditional ballads or more contemporary songs. Unlike many singers who started out as 'folk singers' Fiona has extended her repertoire to include many musical styles. Myths of Time is a welcome beginning to this new phase of her musical life.
