I was alot younger than i am now, when i bought this album the first time around. I was a postman ( for a short while) i remember vividly that i got a tape of this album( a greek import) at a newsagents in Harefield, Southampton. I had read reviews of the band known as Manowar.. signed their contract in their own blood.. had Orson Welles do the voice over for one of their tracks, they were the loudest band in the world ( guiness book of records ) and they wore loincloths and wielded swords.. hmmm... anyways, i heard 'all men play on ten' on the Friday rock show, with Tommy Vance (rip) and i was hooked.. grat song, a dash of humour, but they relayed a sentiment that most uk metalists were embarassed to say. "i'm proud of metal- deal with it" .. So i bought the tape. it was a revelation. trad metal, but with a real hard, feral edge. unpolished, brutal.. honest. theres ballsey rockers,'all men..' soaring soudscapes 'mountains' and proto thrash workouts.. Eric Adams revelled in the fact he ( and still does)sang in concert pitch. everything was to the max.. get this album and see the boy become a man, so to speak. if you like this, then you'll love 'the kings of metal' the next best outing for Manowar.. Like Saxon, their star may have faded in the mid nineties, but quality prevails, and they're back on top again (like saxon). Have a flutter, and leave your preconceptions at the door. listen to the songs, feel the music. this lot are the real deal. If only all metal bands had this level of commitment.Read full review
