The first twenty two seconds of the album are misleading. Oh, Sleeper is the new ish when it comes to hard core music (not the commonly mistaken screamo). Similar to Tooth and Nail's Underoath, they scream and riff like no other compared to their time. Oh, Sleeper sings about many life issues like problems in the church which integrates intellection into their music with imagination. The song "Charlatan's Host" expresses an inner battle in the speaker while demonstrating music talent and arousing emotion in the listener. In the hard core music world, the screaming is not always anger (another common misconception) but is also used for other things such as melancholy ("Charlatan's Host"), elation ("His Name Was Bishop"), trepidation ("To Flagship") and leitmotif ("The Siren's Song"). Screaming in a microphone and making noise is not what Oh, Sleeper is doing at all and they demonstrate this with this with "The Color Theft" and "Revelations in the Calm," two songs that stand out from the rest of the album by the lack of screaming and developed drumbeats. When I Am God is definitely a step up from their previous band Terminal and is the tip of the spear when it comes to leading hard core music into future sounds. If you do not like listening to the music they have well done album art too!Read full review
