I think I love almost everything about this album. In fact, it is probably my favorite album of 2009. 'It Hates You' is pure proof of their ability to create aggressive and unrelenting tunes. The intense and raucous opener track gives way to how good the rest of the album is going to be. The growling vocals are a great mix to the catchy, upbeat-ness of these first few tracks. The fierce and edgy 'Everyone I Know Has Fangs' shows the primal scream Schuylar Croom has to give. But as the album progresses, it shows Croom's ability to lift his vocals to a higher level along with impressive leading bass lines from one amazing bassist, Matt Williams. The gradual intensity of 'Decisions, Decisions, Decisions' chorus is just plain brutal! They even throw in a bit of a pleasant surprise with their third take on 'China White III' that has an almost bluesy and acoustic sound until the drums begin to build, and again showing Croom's vocals in a different light as he lightly sings "Won't you please grow for me?" The album closer 'Mean Shadow' is a 7 minute journey that truly defies who He Is Legend are. One minute it's racing through at a furious pace, filled with crashing drums to the next minute, it's calm, steady and soft. It brings the album to a great conclusion without wearing out it's welcome as it keeps it's intensity all the way through. Overall, 'It Hates You' is a solid rock album with lasting appeal. In my opinion, it is a must buy for all of you music junkies out there.Read full review
