I've been listening biscuits for smut and milquetoast for years, always thinking when will I get this album! This is a great album. It has very original sound (for the time when it was made). Listen to the bass, the drums, the voice - these guys where different in a good sense. If you like grunge you will probably love this album. Anyway if you want to listen to original rock from the nineties listen to this. The only track I didn't like so much was the last one. But that for sure doesn't ruin this great album.
This is one of the best Metal records of the early 90's. HELMET, one of the MOST underrated bands ever deserves so much credit for their innovation, style, and "wall-of-noise" sound developed by group leader and writer/lyricist Page Hamilton. Page employs so many different styles on this, their second major-label release, BETTY. BETTY, unlike its predecessor MEANTIME, showcases a variety of different sounds, rhythms, and moods. You can see the growth almost immediately. Their follow-up to BETTY, AFTERTASTE, showcases the Page Hamilton in his prime. If you're a fan like me, its fun to listen to those three records (all released in the 90's) and see the evolution for yourself!!! Songs from BETTY also ended up on the Major Motion Picture Soundtrack for "The Crow", one of the greatest rock/metal compilations of its time, that still stands the test of time. Unfortunately, Page Hamilton and HELMET took a very long hiatus after AFTERTASTE, but came back STRONG in the 2,000's and 2,010's with a new lineup with "SIZE MATTERS". An album that just knocked it outta the park, featuring Frank Bello (Anthrax) on bass, and Blasko (Rob Zombie, BLS, & many other bands) on drums, recapturing their fire and proving to the world that jazz-rock wall-of-noise metal is here to stay. Shortly after HELMET released "MONOCROME", an album full of experimental riffs and saying to the world that HELMET is still full of suprises and there'll be much more to come. Page Hamilton and HELMET, now with a new lineup, continues to tour, putting on some of the most amazing live shows ever. Often they will play FULL ALBUMS form their catalogue in their entirety without announcement. Albums like BETTY, AFTERTASTE and SIZE MATTERS are staples of their live performances. Often after playing one of these records, Page will take requests from the audience! Its great fun! Count on "Meantime" wrapping up their set. BETTY captures the group just as they're developing the sound that would shape them for decades to come- it's a seminal work of art. BUY THIS RECORD!!!!
