This album is IMO the pinnacle of the unfortunately short-lived but illustrious career of one of the best (but least acknowledged or lauded) American bands of the era. Rough Night in Jericho has a crisp, edgy and high energy sound - every song includes powerful, addictive lyrics. The music is near trance-inducing; I have listened to this album (CD-though I have the vinyl and multiple copies of the CD) thousands of times over nearly 20 yrs and it is still to this day always at the top of the stack. I do very much like their more psychadelic-era, Athens-like stuff as well (some people say they lacked the Athens "underground" image or philosophy) which is more evident in both their earlier and later music. It's a whole different sound, which IMO is a testament to their versatility and growth. Their career was cut short for what I gather was business reasons, and that's a real shame. Had they been able to keep it together for just a short while longer I think the rest of the world would have really taken notice. This album is excellent. I have recruited countless people to DSR fan-dom by playing this album for them.Read full review
This is a classic pop CD from beginning to end, by a great band that was part of the Athens music scene in the late eighties and early nineties. Unfortunately the band never broke out from beneath the cultural shadow cast by ultra-hipsters REM, and ultimately when Nirvana stole Athens thunder to Seattle with the release of "teen spirit" and people stopped showering, Dreams So Real disbanded. Still, this is a timeless jangly pop gem and every track is as solid as the rest. This band deserves it's place in history as Titans of the alternative movement.
This band should have risen straight to the top with R.E.M. and the B-52s. Excellent alternative/pop band from the 80s with a distinctive sound. Barry Marler provides powerful vocals and leads the great sound these guys produce. Great driving music.
This is not at all a style that I listen to anymore at all but this deserves the 4 star rating I am giving it for being such a solid alterna/pop album that deserved a much wider audience. If I had discovered this years ago when I was really into Tonio K, Bruce Cockburn, and Steve Scott I would have been a huge fan. 4 Stars.
This item was just what I wanted. I like the group Dreams So Real and I like this cd Rough Night In Jericho that is why I bought this Product. I like everything about this product. It is one of the best cd I have seen compared to other cds.
