Journey's fourth album, Infinity, was released in January 1978 on the Columbia Records label. Looking for a stronger lead vocalist, Journey briefly enlisted front man Robert Fleischman and even recorded one track, "For You", which would later appear on the Time3 collection, and Fleischman's solo album, Perfect Stranger. Fleischman was soon replaced by Steve Perry. With the songs "Feeling That Way" and "Anytime", Perry would share the vocals with former singer of the band and keyboardist Gregg Rolie. Perry and Neal Schon penned their first song together, "Patiently", which would appear on the new studio album. Other popular singles include "Lights" and "Wheel in the Sky", the latter written by temporary front man Fleischman.
Enter Steve Perry on vocals! You'll notice instantly that 1/2 of these songs are in regular classic rock FM radio play rotation...FOR A GOOD REASON!!! This cd rocks, even the songs that you may not recognize are really strong. This was Journey at the bands height, and this is one of several from this time period that you can put in the cd changer and pretty much forget about taking out because you may never really tire of hearing this classic material.
This is an all time classic album that I truly love. I was only a year old when this album came out (1978) and I loved it and it has stuck in my head ever since. Songs like Wheel in the Sky, Patiently, Lights, Anytime, and Feeling That Way are all time AOR classics and this is album along with all the other Steve Perry albums are my favorite rock albums of all time period. Because of this I give this album 5 stars
Some memorable songs are on this effort: "Lights", "Wheel in the Sky". Less well known, I think, are "Patiently" and "Winds of March", and if you want to know why Steve Perry is known as "The Voice", try those. He and Neal Schon wrote "Patiently" the first time they met. Neal (and others) had reservations about this "new guy" and his singing style but those were quickly set aside when they formed such a quick and close bond as writers, and then as friends. "Winds of March" is a favorite of mine (I have so many!) and Perry soars on that one. I have both songs live and studio-recorded and there is a marked difference: they can let loose while performing live. If you want the softer, more soulful versions, listen to the studio recordings. Either way, they're fabulous. Steve's fan Jan
