This is the second album by the Priest but the first indication of what they would become... A modern day Metal Gods Juggernaut! Probably their best song ever kicks off this masterpiece, Victim of Changes. Here is why I only gave it 4 stars. This song must be remastered to perfection, but sadly, very sadly it is not! With remastered cd's you get this awesome low end full panoramic sound, which is mostly true on the rest of this fine disc... HOWEVER! They failed miserably on the most iconic Priest song of all time, VOC! They enhanced the bass on this track alright, the bass guitar! It overrides everything else on the track! This is not a jab at the extremely underrated and underappreciated Ian Hill, it's a jab at the remastering process! Thank goodness it's not as prevalent on the remaining tracks and thank goodness the mix of VOC on Essential Priest is excellent! This CD is still a MUST for any Priest/Metal fan! Read full review

I wore this album out back in the day. My friend from San Antonio, TX was playing this and I thought what a great heavy band! The album was Sad Wings of Destiny! From the opening song: Victim of Chamges- the guitars are ripping and Rob Halford is awesome! The Ripper is just a great track and once again the band is kicking! Dreamer-Deceiver is a great track also. The whole album is just awesome! This is a great album to really hear early Judas Priest! The earlier album:Rock a Rolla is good but not as good as Sad wings of destiny! This one is well worth the money. I did buy it again on cd! Crazychefjoe
My favorite album, this is as close as you can get to perfection. Every song is a masterpiece, without doubt, this is Priest's best album. This album has a heavyer and a softer side, both perfect. The atmosphere, the feeling of Dreamer/Deciever and Epitaph is unforgettable. The riffs on Victim of Changes and Tyrant are im my opinion, one of the best riffs in heavy metal music.Halford is propably the best metal vocalist, listen to this album and you'll see why. This album is one of the most important albums in heavy metal music. If you like this one , you should check the rest of Priest's 70's stuff. The second best is propably Stained Class, although first two albums are more progressive.
Features 9 tracks in all including such early Priest classics as "Victim of Changes", "The Ripper", "Tyrant", "Genocide" & "Island of Domination. This KOCH Records release features the very colorful and dramatic cover artwork too. Don't overlook this early Judas Priest release if you're a true fan because it deserves a place in your collection. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
This is one of my favorite Judas Priest albums.
