Killing Joke has to be one of the most underrated groups of all time. You never see them on the Billboard charts, but they deliver on each and every record they release. "Night Time" is a shining example of that. This record, while sounding close to 80's on-the-prowl rock (a la Cutting Crew) on the surface, it is still Indie Rock. In fact, this is one of their more conservative records style-wise. Nevertheless, they still shine with songs like "Night Time", "Darkness Before Dawn" and my personal favorite "Love Like Blood". The music might sound poppy for the time it was made but the lyrics are definitely avante-garde. (On the song "Eighties" for example, lead singer Jaz Coleman actually butchers the decade.) Killing Joke were in many ways going against the grain, and their goal was to inspire people with their music. The "Killing Joke" is, according to Jaz, a mirror that proves "what you see in us, you can do, too; that the stage is the audience, and the audience is the stage." In other words, one could say that Killing Joke in some ways was like Nirvana and NIN: totally iconoclastic against trends in the music industry, while being totally passion about music as an open platform. Therefore, here's to Killing Joke for not only making a superb record, but also leading the way for many other bands as well.Read full review
Fantastic record. Totally under-rated band.

I WAS A BIG NEW WAVE GEEK BACK IN '85 SO THIS ALBUM BROUGHT A LITTLE NEEDED DARKNESS INTO MY LIFE. I HEARD A SONG ON THE RADIO IN S.F. AS WE WERE DRIVING BACK TO L.A. ON A MINI VACATION. MY GRAMPS WAS DRIVING AND I TOLD HIM NOT TO CHANGE THE CHANNEL TIL I HEARD WHO THE BAND WAS. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I BOUGHT THE ALBUM AS SOON AS I COULD AT THE MOM & POP STORE [ I THINK IT WAS STILL AN IMPORT]. WHEN RAVEN DIED IT WAS LIKE I KNEW HIM CUZ OF THIS ALBUM. STILL A HAUNTING REMINDER OF HOW I FELT WHEN I WAS 15
