2004's The End Of Heartache spelled a change for Metallers Killswitch Engage. It was new vocalist Howard Jones' first studio effort with the band and the creating of this album is a test with which both Jones and the rest of the band pass with flying colours. Beatdowns, odd time signatures, speedy metal riffs, epic half-time choruses with melodies that will stick in your head all feature. Personal favourite tracks being Rose of Sharyn with it's supremely epic outro and When Darkness Falls, which kicks off with some of the fastest double-bass pedal work I've ever heard. If you're into epic metalcore, this is well worth a listen.
Borderline Emo... Howard Jones' vocals on this album make every song epic yet remaining extremely heavy. With a clever interlude, aptly named 'inhale' you can catch your breath to carry on with the rest of the album. The crunchy riff's do this record justice however i have nothing to compare this album to unfortunately as it is my first introduction to killswitch engage. Maybe not for the hardcore metal fans (or maybe so...) I am pretty open-minded and found this CD highly entertaining. Would never want to say 'worth a listen' because you will listen to this more than once as that is the least it deserves. In my opinion it's a clever metal album that will be appreciated by the right listener.
I decided to buy this album as i have another by the band and i really loved it. In my local music stores this CD is about £15-20 and i refuse to pay this amount as its a complete rip-off!!So i went on net and found it on ebay so cheap. Its just as good as the last album but as a refreshing change this album has a new lead vocalist and he has managed to follow on from the last vocalist really well and i think is maybe even better. I would recommend this album to anyone into the heavy rock or metal scene and as this has a softer side to it too so can also be enjoyed by people into softer rock too.
I have not long finished listening to this album and I'v not really heard much from killswitch, except on the odd comp albums, where only the older stuff is on there, but this is deffinately one of the better albums, so go and buy it.
Wow!!! This album totally rocks. After listening to this album over and over again(im still not bored with it) its hard to pick out any bad tracks or points. This is the first album with the new singer Howard Jones and boy can that man Scream/sing. He puts his heart and soul into every note and really draws you in. This album is obviously not going to be to everyones taste but if you like your metal loud and shouty this ones for you.
