An excellent album which harks back to earlier King Crimson albums. There are guest appearances from both Ian Mcdonald and Mel Collins. This is my favourite album by the Wetton - Burford - Fripp -Cross version of the band.

One of my favourite king crimson albums from their power trio era, arguably the best lineup. Great to hear the full length version of Starless again.

King Crimson were one of the archetypical Prog rock bands. Starting in the very late 60s and venturing into the mid-70s, they hit a purple patch and became one the most adventurous bands. The album "Red" forms one leg of the definitive trio of King Crimson Albums; the others being "In the Court of the Crimson King" and "Larks' Tongues in Aspic". All three are worth listening to: The mastery of compositional, instrumental and lyrical technique are amongst the best that you will hear. Perhaps only Pink Floyd, Gong, Camel, Caravan, Soft Machine and Wishbone Ash can compete, from the prog sphere.
I missed King Crimson in my younger days, but am happily revisiting them now. This album is often described as proto 'heavy metal', and that is fair enough. The tracks are all distinctive and full of interest but, for me, the outstanding track is 'Starless' (not to be confused with similarly named tracks/albums by this group). I can't get the theme out of my head, and I often have it on repeat in my car. That track, in terms of King Crimson albums I've heard thus far, puts this on a par with 'In the Court of the Crimson King'.
