Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson are convincing as a divorced couple who are appearing in a Broadway play about courting each other. The two's bickering is what the movie is all about while they play a Shakespearean couple in a musical Taming of the Shrew, who are courting in 1600's Padua, Italy. Ann Miller dances to the hilt in a supporting role as the sister in the play who wants to get married but can't until her older sister finds a husband. In a subplot, Keenan Wynn plays a mobster who thinks that Howard Keel owes a gambling debt. The movie is full of satisfying dancing and singing. Cole Porter's songs are the focus of the music. "So In Love", "Tom, Dick, or Harry", "I'll Be True to You in My Fashion", and "Too Darn Hot" are some of the songs from the movie. "From this Moment On" was not in the Broadway play but is included in the movie. If you are turned off by continuous singing and dancing, you would not like the movie. However, if you appreciate the arts, this is a wonderful experience and is not overdone. It actually has a good plot and is not just a play arranged around a lot of songs. Keel's and Grayson's voices are wonderful. Miller's dancing ability cannot be matched. And finally, it is truly funny and genuinely artistic.Read full review

I was quite happy to see this DVD for sale on ebay. The principal stars and also the second cast are quite talented and the music and dancing are quite classic for this time period in Hollywood. Kathryn Grayson & Howard Keel star together in this classic take-off of "Shakespere's Taming of the Shrew". The lyrics are typical tongue-in-cheek and delightful as Cole Porter is as clever as ever. Dancing talents of Bobby Van, Bob Fosse, Ann Miller & Carol Haney are timeless. A very enjoyable, watchable and unforgetable DVD. Sit back and enjoy........
Kiss Me Kate is one of Hollywood's great classical musicals, a story-within-a-story. A divorced couple performing Taming of the Shrew onstage and offstage. Add a wonderful performance by Keenan Wynn and James Whitmore, mistakenly come during the performance to collect a gambling debt. The film is also notable for the great Bob Fosse part in choreographing part of the grand finale dance section, which is considered one of the best in musical film.

Kiss Me Kate is just a lot of fun with wonderful music and wonderful dancing. For those of you who really do like the "blockbuster" musicals, this is a keeper. Forget that it was released in 1953 (as a 3-D movie no less), just pop some corn, dim the lights and transport yourself to a simpler, more innocent time.
