I heard a track from this album on YouTube & was stunned by how good this one and only release from Growers of Mushrooms in 1971 was, so much so that I bought the album. It's beyond me to understand why this band failed to become as big as Led Zeppelin did! I urge you to buy a copy for, if you like good rocking music, then you'll love this.

It's easy to see why the original record on Decca SKLR5094 sells for so much. The cover artwork would have you believe that you are about to listen to somekind of psychedelic album, but what you get is a well worthy "Hard Progressive Rock" album, with very catchy tunes, great for playing in you car or on your ipod. The Repetoire CD also boasts 3 bonus tracks, the later of which "Too Many Rock 'n Roll Times" is pure brilliance,I would definately love to hear what Leaf Hound as Progressed to ,if this track is anything to go by. All in all "Growers of Mushroom" is a real treat,Peter French has a real raw vocal talent, that can be compared to that of maybe Paul Rogers & Robert Plant, and the lead guitarist lets out a few good rifts aswell. Can't Wait To Hear Their New Album When Its "Unleashed" .
I bought the CD mostly out of curiosity and due to the good reviews it received as a rare heavy metal classic. Overall quite good but mostly derivative and songs sound very similar over time and can become a bit boring ! Liked opening track best, Freelance Fiend. Good CD but Atomic Rooster does 70s' heavy metal better !
This a top quality album, very much like early Led Zepplin-/-Free sound. A must for all Prog Rockers. fuchersexile30
