Mastodon are the flavour of the month at the moment, with their newest release "Blood Mountain" charting and their singles "Sleeping Giant" and "Colony of Birchmen" winning critical acclaim and several awards. This earlier release is, in my humble opinion, their best album which deserved more [plaudits than Blood Mountain received but was perhaps too ahead of its time when released. Its epic theme of Captain Ahab seeking the Great White Whale makes this a concept album you can become totally immersed in. I found it almost addictive in its playability !! Mastodon are the saviours of the once dying prog metal genre, and their individual sound makes Mastodon and "Leviathan" a must-have for fans of such a wonderful metal sub-section ! I commend it to the house !!!
