This is the best album Lou Reed has ever done. His poetry sores above his usual day-to-day observations and is finally accompanied by a score that makes this more then just a beat poetry reading backed by guitar and drums. A theme album that doesn't feel hokey or contrived. Lou leads us through the suffering of watching a close friend slowly dieing and the emotional aftermath it causes in those left behind. Make no misstate this is still Lou Reed, he is no song bird and he still see things from his gritty urban sarcastic view point. But he does convey to the best of his ability a true artist rendering of Magic and Loss.
