I was first drawn to this album while looking for records at my favorite shop back in 1974. The incredibly striking psychedelic artwork instantly caught my attention, and whet my appetite for what beckoned inside(on the vinyl).I had never heard of the band at this point, but it screamed to me that I would be in for a real treat once I opened the package. I have always loved to put on a new album and start to read all the information on it, lyrics, credits and everything else.At the end it states," this record should be played loud or heard with headphones for best results". I opted for the headphones, and was immediately assaauled with an explosion of psychedelic sound courtesy of Mr. Frank Marino and company. The voodoo ryhthms and heavily Hendrix influenced guitar assaults of Look Outside sent shivers down my spine. When Frank begins to wail, all the visions that are descibed on the inner sleeve begin to dance around in your mind. The imagery is all there, the ride through outer space of Thru the Milky Way, the incredible comic book characters of Plastic Man, and an ode to Jimi himself in Child of the Novelty. When A New Rock and Roll is offered, it really is that, vintage Chuck Berry guitar rock with a sound for the sonic age.Frank wards off the Hendrix detractors with the angry Talkin bout a Feelin, then lets em have it with a full on blast of Guit War and Makin my Wave. The proceedings are all brought to a gentle and atmospheric close with Chains of (S)Pace. I spent many hours of enjoyment with those headphones on and became a huge Frank Marino fan.Shortly after I was to witness Mahogany Rush live for the first of many times, and was totally blown away each and every time. This album along with its follow up Strange Universe, represent a very special place in time that I hold near and dear to my heart. They are treasures from a magical time, in the evolution of Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush and I highly recommend them to anyone who loves rock as much as I do.I was very ecstatic about finding and purchasing both of these albums on cd recently on ebay. Both have been digitally remastered and both contained the original incredible artwork. AH Back to the story of Frank Marino and Mohogany Rush and their ties to Hendrix- This album, among the first three are heavily influenced by Jimi,so much so that people ignore it-do not do that, theres' plenty of riffs to go around! You can hear Frank say @ the end of "Make my Wave" ..then i became the second jimi hendrix...does not help his case on originality but he only has awe for Jimi-no harm. The cd is great from begining to end with the famous backward lead on the last track and the not so famous guit-wars an electic funeral all done with guitars and amps no effects- Amazing! Buy it. K

Awesome record! This is from the early 70's and Frank Marino sounds like Hendrix! He sings and plays like him. But it's all Marino's songs. Very cool.
