I have always adored Oasis, but have never had the money to purchase all of the albums. I owned most, but not all, and when I seen The Masterplan here on eBAY, I just HAD to have it. The album itself contains all of the B-Sides that should have been made singles themselves, Acquiese, Talk Tonight... It also contains the epic I Am The Walrus, a cover of The Beatles great track, only faster, louder and more rock 'n' roll. Although it doesn't have "D'yer Wanna Be A Spaceman" on, (Which, in my opinion is the ALL TIME GREATEST B SIDE) it is compensated by Stay Young which is equally as good. Another one to watch out for is 'Half The World Away' which later became the theme tune to the BBC's comedy series, The Royle Family. All in all, a GREAT CD for ANY Oasis fan. Definately worth purchasing.Read full review
Most of my favorite gems lie in the B-sides from the singles that oasis released.. This is really Noels Masterplan at work, I could listen to this every day word by word and great to sing along to.. B-side are usually a just a stuffing to fill the CD often sounding rushed or remixes, Each Track created with as much passion as the rest of em' Manchesters finest- Oasis.. If you love Oasis and do not own all the singles THIS IS A MUST!!
I bought this album for one song only, Masterplan. I heard it on Stop The Clock and fell head over heels in love with it. Now, what I wasn't expecting was the tracks that I haven't heard to be as good, but they are. I especially like 'Going nowhere' which is typical Oasis work, and now one of my favourites and most played. I you are an Oasis fan and haven't got this, why not? Thats what I asked myself when I heard it, 'why haven't I bought this earlier?' An added bonus for me being a huge Beatles fan was the inclusion of 'I Am The Walrus', and this version is no worse than the fab fours. Five stars from me.
A distillation of the four greatest British groups of the last 20 years (the Sex Pistols, The Jam, The Jesus And Mary Chain and The Stone Roses), Oasis were always so much more than the clumsy revisionists their critics tried to paint them as. It's no great insight to say that these B-sides were frequently equal to, or better than, the single they were meant to be supporting, it's just amazing how often: 'Aquiesce', 'Half The World Away', 'Stay Young', 'Fade Away'... the list just goes on.
I hadn't thought much of singles and B-sides until I discovered Oasis. But the quality of them is sometimes even better than the album tunes. Tunes like 'Acquiesce', 'Talk Tonight', 'Fade Away', 'Stay Young', or 'The Masterplan' have become live classics and Oasis fans love them equally as the hits from 'Definitely Maybe' or 'Morning Glory'. My favourite ones, 'Listen Up' and 'The Masterplan', give me indescribable feelings every time I listen to them. This compilation of the best Oasis B-sides could have easily been a regular album and it could be one of the best.
