Megadeth has always been a "progressive" metal band in that the musicians take a thrash approach and expand upon it. RISK is no different. The album title stems from the experimental approach taken by the band. RISK will definitely please the Mega-diehards and may draw in some new listeners as well. "Insomnia" features techno guitar riffs and violin and is primed for album-rock airplay. "Prince of Darkness," which also features violin, is a 6:25 metal opus done right. "Crush 'Em" is a fist pumping, arena rock gem. It is also the band's most commercial single to date. "Breadline," a brooding tale of homelessness, lacks the metallic punch of the group's early material but is a melodic winner. "I'll Be There" takes this a step further, going in a Bon Jovi-like direction. Drummer Jimmy DeGrasso's (formerly of Suicidal Tendencies) synchronized talents are featured on "Seven." One of the few '80s metal bands still prospering in the '90s, Megadeth shows no lack of creativity on RISK. The band has matured while still waving the metal banner. RISK pays offàwith dividends.Read full review
This is the old version of Risk that has not been remixed or remastered. I can't compare it to the 2004 remix/remaster because I haven't heard it. When it was originally realeased in 1999, Risk didn't go over well with many Megadeth fans who felt that it was to commercial. Risk was a departure from Megadeth's established thrah metel sound with its electronic sequences, unconventional instruments and songs that could even be described as radio friendly. I have to give Megadeth credit for trying a different approach. Also, I think its a great album. I've listened to it all the way through many times since I bought it. "Breadline" has become one of my favorite Megadeth songs. If you only like Megadeth's first four albums, you probably won't like Risk. If you like Megadeth's more recent output, give Risk a try.Read full review

I have always enjoyed this album, but it went out of print in 2004. It's great to get it again at such a great price. Definitely recommended.
