Rust In Peace...Polaris Details Playing time: 40 min. Producer: Dave Mustaine, Mike Clink Distributor: EMI Music Distribution Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: AAD Album notes After the success of PEACE SELLSàBUT WHO'S BUYING? in 1986 and SO FAR, SO GOOD, SO WHAT! in 1988, Megadeth was fast becoming one of thrash metal's leading outfits. However, the band's hard work was nearly derailed because of the continuous dismissals of band members and chronic substance abuse. Founding members Dave Mustaine (guitar/vocals) and Dave Ellefson (bass) changed their ways before work on their fourth album began, hiring drummer Nick Menza and ex-Cacophony guitarist Marty Friedman. When Megadeth re-emerged with RUST IN PEACE in 1990, metalheads were happy to hear that the changes hadn't dulled their attack in the slightest. "Holy WarsàThe Punishment Due" is an absolutely crushing opener that shows off the technical expertise of the musicians, while "Hangar 18" covers the familiar ground of alien visitation and government conspiracy. Both videos were put in heavy rotation on MTV's Headbanger's Ball program, which helped land the band a spot on the successful heavy 'Clash of the Titans' tour with Anthrax, Slayer, and Alice In Chains. Other highlights include the heavy hitters "Five Magics," "Lucretia," and "Rust in PeaceàPolaris."Read full review
If you are at all into speed metal/thrash, then you will have heard this album's title a millio times, and you will have heard it lauded and bigged-up with so much hype and praise over the years. The praise is justified, as are all the plaudits. This is one of THE essential albums of the 'Big Four' of the American thrash scene. Mustaine brought even more technicality and anger to the table with this one, and the album's riffs and solos still have people scratching their heads twenty years on. The guitar tone is set to 'annhilate', the solos blistering and and times, staggering, and the rhythm in a lot of passages, just as complex as solo work. The lyrics, as per usual with Dave Mustaine, are thought provoking, political and full of snarling anger - as are his vocals. There's no deft touch at all - he snarls and growls his way through every verse. The addition of Nick Menza on the skins and Marty Friedman on lead cement the playing proficiency - the band is fiting on all four cylinders. If you haven't checked this one out yet, shame on you, and prepare for one of heavy metal's finest moments.Read full review
One of the greatest thrash albums of all time, 1990's Rust In Peace is a definitive benchmark to headbanging, riffing, soloing and all around thrashing. Progressive drumming of Nick Menza, the ferocious, galloping bass of Dave Ellefson combine to form an excellent rhythm while the ferocious riffs of Mustaine and incredible solos of Marty Freidman lead the way. Check out Tornado of Souls, Holy Wars, and, well, every single track on the album is killer, even Dawn Patrol, brilliantly leading the way to the album's finale Rust In Peace... Polaris. Must-own for any real metalheads, not talking to you mallcore kids.
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. Not just metal albums. The tightness of this version of Megadeth was amazing. I actually saw them play the 20th anniversary tour in New Jersey and Long Beach, Ca in two weeks apart. They were still amazing. From first song to the last this album is incredible. Still after 21 years.
Recently I’ve been collecting old Megadeth CDs because I cannot stand the 2004 remasters sold now. This CD is great quality and sounds amazing. Shipped really fast and everything went as expected!!
