This is one of my favorite Metallica album and the debut album for Jason Newsted, and I respect this dude
Robbed of a Grammy. By of all people Getro Hull. This album is yet another master peice by the Masters of Heavy. It is a story of music and heavy drum beats and fast moving complex mixture of guitar by both Hetfield and Hammett. This also being the first album since the untimely death of bassist Cliff Burton and the introduction (and lack of bass sound on the album) of Jason Newsted moved the band into a more commercial mainstream and unease and outcry from hardened fans.( accused of selling out for making One video) All in all this album is full of great peices of music with strong stand alone songs like Blackened, Havaster of Sorrow, ...And Justice for All and of course the First Metallica anthem, One. And combined from finish to end it is a story through music that at that stage Metallica were good at.Read full review
AJFA is certainly in my top 10 best albums of all time. Many have critisized the production of the album which I believe is one of it's strengths. AJFA has a completely raw/live sound as if the songs were recorded in one take. This gives the album a unique character to hich you can also hear on the compilation "Garage days" which I also recomend to any rock / metal fan as well as anyone who is into drumming. The drums are simply awesome. AJFA is Metallica at their prime, following the also great; master of puppets, Ride the Lightning and their first album - Kill em all. The album after AJFA "Metallica" also known as the black album is also good but this is where Metallica start going off the rails into commercial oblivion.
