If you like grindcore you've surely heard Assück before, but if you haven't than here's a band you should take some time and listen closely to. Clocking at little over than 15 minutes and with a grand total of 15 songs this is grindcore at its best. It has a clear death metal influence, much in the vein of Terrorizer, and while it's less "punky" than your typical grindcore, that doesn't detract from its political content. Alas this is an album that takes its name from the poverty factor in USA, how much more political can you be?! The music here is excellent, pretty much superior to most of the grind acts of the last 15 years, and this is truly a worthy follow-up to the Terrorizer sound, although is has a little more groove in the guitars. As in World Downfall, Misery Index presents us with one hell of a drumming performance. Rob Proctor shines in this album like few grind drummers have, and it's fabulous to hear him play. The riffs are pretty much all of great quality, the bass is more or less audible and the songwriting is very cohesive, which doesn't say that you won't recognize any differences between the songs. After a few listens you'll immediately identify which song is which, and there will be even some riffs that will stick to your head for the following days. Although not a masterpiece, it's clearly one of the best grindcore albums of the nineties, and easily one of the top twenty grind albums ever. A recommended buy for anyone that likes grindcore, and particularly fans of Terrorizer.Read full review
