A truly wonderful performance from this iconic band. I have followed Frith (bass) since his early days with Henry Cow and The Art Bears and this is an interesting change from his usual palette of guitar and viola. Bill Frisell also really sticks out and it is not hard to see how he fast developed into one of the more interesting guitar-players around. It's hard to distinguish exactly what Horwitz is doing on keys, but the range of ambient sounds, clicks and keyboards beefs up what is already a delightfully full and eccentric sound and Zorn's heartwrenching sax is the cherry on top. The sheer controlled chaos that melds effortlessly into very "straight" riffs of bluegrass, C & W, kletzmer and hardcore metal is exquisite. I much prefer the dynamics of this stunning performance to the studio versions. Not "easy listening" in the least, but a must have for a connoisseur of the out-of-the-ordinary.Read full review
