I bought this to replace a cassette I bought in 1980. Very sweet and simple, sentimental and "country;" not Country Western, but country, like your deceased old grandparents-type music. Willie's covers of old Christmas standards are charming. The melancholy "Christmas Blues" is exactly what the name implies -- the blues at Christmas. Maybe you couldn't get your kid that toy he dreamed of, or maybe you drank up your bonus. It hurts, but it's almost a good kind of hurt. I think this album reflects Willie's Abbott, Texas, childhood Christmases, because it feels the way my own father describes his childhood Christmases growing up just a few miles a way, in the country near Mt. Calm, Texas. The sound and feel are regional, yet I suspect, universal.Read full review
While Willie is really cool, I’m not a huge country fan. Hate the nasally twang, but this is absent of most of that. A very good traditional singer/songwriter sound, covering some great Christmas classics.
