Okay, this sountrack sounds like something out of the 1950's. This music isn't dramatic and it dosen't fit the spy genere. Even though Never Say Never Again is the second worst James Bond film, this music isn't worthy of this crappy film. Michel Legrand is a good composer and all, but if he ever even considered composing music for another James Bond film he better make some serious changes. Even a third grade band which never practices could blow this sorry score of music out of the water with more than great ease. As always, let's get to the good and bad points of this soundtrack. 1.)GOOD QUALITIES Absoloutley no good qualties to this soundtrack at all. 2.)BAD QUALITIES 1. Horribly written music. 2. Music sounds asif it were recorded for a circus. 3. Music sounds like something from a very cheap 1950's horror movie. 4. Music repeats itself throughout the film Never Say Never Again. Note: I could go on with these bad qualities forever, my general advice is to skip this album, you'll be thankful you did. If you do decide to get this putrid piece of trash, be sure to have some headache medicine. if you do not get a headache, you will probably wonder this: Did the composer realize that it was 1983? Did he ever check the calendar since New Year's Day of 1954? Did he realize that this music sounds like entertainment music for a circus? Did he realize that this type of music has been way out of style since before seatbelts were invented? Did he realize that he would have some stiff competition from really bad elementary school bands? I think not. Another thing, a few years back they were going to do something wonderful to the film Never Say Never Again. There was to be a special edition laserdisc released with the film re-scored and deleted scenes included. Unfortunately, the film was released on laserdisc, but there never was a release with the film re-scored and deleted scenes included. If there was such a release, this film could actually go from below average to average. Mainly, it would be easier on our ears to have a new score rather than this. Hey, this score is so bad that it can't possibly get any worse so if it were re-scored it would have to be better. Who knows, it probably would have been better to have no music at all in the film. Trust me, skip this one and don't even think twice about it. Or, if you really want to hear the soundtrack then rent the movie Never Say Never Again. The movie itself isn't even worth buying. Once you watch the movie, you'll see what a downright terrible soundtrack this is. All in all, I give this movie 1/10 of a star out of five stars.Read full review
This remake of Thunderball was quite a treat back in 1983. The score is not of your typical Bond theme because of studios clashing between the rights of the original Thunderball and a totally different studio involved. There was a whole legal battle in the making of this film and its score. Being that Never Say Never Again came out the same year as Octopussy, it was not considered part of the Bond Franchise. It was Sean Connery's goal to have Thunderball remade, being that he didnt like how the original was completed, so this was considered a stand alone Bond adventure with a slightly different touch. It is an alternative view of the Bond character as well as the music and the theme and is considered arguably a classic to this day. Even though there was a legal battle while making the film, Sean Connery worked tooth and nail to complete it and respectfully became quite the re-imagining of the classic spy story to Thunderball, the way Connery emagined it.Read full review
