First and foremost, it is the combination of the different influences brought by Jeroen and his intricate arrangements that gave me the springload detonation...if it means something...to hop in and not miss the chance of getting one for the best death metal cds of those last years. Standing as a classic for me. Yeah, I owned one CD before and know the contents inside out. But I thought there was a kink in the cd that made friction inside the cd player. But it was the cdplayer itself losing over time to frequent usage. 7th year of playing. Anyway, returning to the CD. It is always plenty of the great memories I've had on hearing their clip for the first time. Neoclassic influences and Jazz fusion influences of Steffen, Hannes, and Chris, plus some serious Moorish and flamenco influences from Jeroen to bring on the savagery of death metal some leaps ahead of the league, back in the day...it was the sh*t. So, enjoy the momentum over and over. The production needs a reboot after so many years as the drums engineering is like the old days but with triggers...it is kind of bizarre but a sweet taste to it. The guitars are a tad muffled and the bass, well, at the forefront in terms of sonic scapes and volume. The bass never sits around but does circles above and below the guitars and not really on the beat when treading melody for contrapuntal lines. A treat of its own- to have its niche. The guitars always plays along the same side on savage and direct compositions. But the more intricate ones got distinct an eerie feeling to the leads and anchoring riffs not content to be traditional. Always lil gems, here and there, to my greatest pleasure. The follow-up was a massive improvements in all departments. And, Omnivium is my favourite. But "Cosmogenesis" will always be special to me. A bit biased as I love standouts and this is just the 'One.'Read full review
