This is the definitive recording of the first six of Haydn's twelve "London" symphonies. The music is based on Haydn scholar H. C. Robbin Landon's edition of the works that he believes comes closest to the intentions of the composer. The performance is by The Cleveland Orchestra, built and conducted by perfectionist George Szell. Szell's orchestra plays with the transparency of a string quartet so that the secondary inner voices stand out with a clarity not found in an other recording.
