Ahh, lots of guests, bells and whistles on this CD by Spread Eagle. The self-titled debut record was super heavy, super sleazy, and super on the song writing. This time around, well, not so much. But that doesn't mean the album is a stinker- it's just musically in a different direction. More instrumentation, more vocal tricks (the leader singer cops Layne Staley on the second track). The songs tend to show a more patriotic side to the band, being that the album was released in 1993, thus recorded during the first Gulf War. I've listened to "Open To The Public" many times now, and gosh-darnit the music just keeps growing on me. Whereas the first record was more Appetite era Guns 'N' Roses meets Shout At The Devil era Crue, this one is GNR Use Your Illusion + PUMP-style Aero-tunage. Good stuff. These CD's deserve to be re-issued.-David J. Newman 01/15/2011Read full review
