There is no doubt that Steve Lukather is a great guitar player. I have been listening to him since his days in Toto and have always been impressed by his playing ability. But there are many great guitar players out there. What differentiates the really good ones that you want to listen to all the time is not so much their playing ability but their ability to write or record songs that are memorable. Good pop music always contains some kind of hook, whether it be something catchy or memorable in the melody or in a guitar riff. There's something unique and memorable in every good or great song. Unfortunately, in this album and to my ear, there are none of those kinds of things; at least not pronounced enough to be so good that you want to listen to the album or even one song on the album over and over again. What makes for a great album is great song writing, the instrumentation is simply a way to convey the song in a compelling way. This album contains good playing but not very good songs.Read full review

Steve Lukather's latest solo CD is one of his best. It's clear that he is going thru a lot of personal pain in his life, and he really does an excellent job of putting those experiences into his music. I am a complete fan of Toto and Steve and have always felt that there was no Toto without him. Some of my favorite albums are the ones that Steve played the lead role without Bobby (nothing against Kimball, but the heart of Toto was always Steve and David, in my opinion). If you're a fan, you'll probably love this album from the first playing.
Steve Lukather is awesome!
