V: The New Mythology Suite is a stellar example of modern progressive metal, with elements of symphonic and power metal. Michael Romeo's guitar work explores all parts of the spectrum, from the jagged, thrashy edge of Evolution, to the haunting and ethereal passages of Communion and the Oracle. Russell Allen's supremacy as the greatest singer in prog or perhaps any type of metal is apparent from the first track. This album is a must own for any true prog fan, and is among Symphony X's best work if not their single best album.

Symphony X's fifth album is a progressive metal and a symphonic metal masterpiece. The one hour long suite combines symphonic music together with skilled heavy metal. The narrative of this album takes us through the tragic mythological story of Atlantis. Russel Allan's wonderful voice together with Michael Romeo's guitar technique, Jason Rullo's amazing drums, Michael Lepond's skilled bass playing and Michael Pinnella's Gentle keyboard, sweeps us through mixed emotions of hope, rage, bliss and sorrow as we experience the downfall of Atlantis. The music itself is rich and combines complex electric guitar riffs together with parts from a Requiem by Mozart's. This amazing piece of work is definitely worth listening to, and is one of my all- time favorite albums.
Aside from Dream Theatre- this band is my favorite progressive power metal band. The Vocalist has command and power, the keys and guitars interplay is astonishing. They do point and counterpoint, magnificent arranged Epic pieces, technically dizzying levels of virtuoso proficiency. The drummer has signature sound and adds tremendous color to the syncopations. This band is authentic musicians- not simply thrashers, and speed strummers. All albums are 5 Star Epic Works of the Highest quality.
Great music by a great band
