Ostrich was a name on paper and I was interested to learn something of his music. I had heard another of Vypcalek's works conducted by Ancel and was intrigued. I find Ancerl one of the most interesting conductors of the mid-20th Century, and he rarely fails to bring mediocre works to discs. While neither, on first listening is the Matthew Passion nor the Janacek Sinfonietta, the are still out for repeat listening, not stuffed away on a shelf.
