As an avid rocker from 1969 on, it became all too depressing with the rise of disco and rap. Hard Rock bands were the essence of good taste. Bands like Judas Priest, Metallica, Black Sabbath, and the such all generated excellence in the formation of rock. The 80's & 90's saw a steep decline in the flair and appeal of most bands. Hair bands took over, usually starting hard on the first album (usually their biggest success) than slowly moving toward the door of obscurity as they try to out-do their former creation(s). When I was introdused by a friend to the first TRAPT (TRAPT), I was immediately hooked on HEADSTRONG and THE GAME. I found myself playing these two songs even more than my Heavy Metal bands. It wasn't long before ENIGMA caught my attention, followed by a very careful listen to the entire CD. Needless to say, it easily rates in my top 100 of all time Rock CD's. Each song an the TRAPT CD, when listened to each on it's own merits, define a true rock band on the horizon. Now I can't get through 7 days without hearing this first CD by a very gifted group of musicians. It should serve as the way songs are made in the future. Enter SOMEONE IN CONTROL. I had to buy it just to see if my thoughts of this band were true. I was prepared for the disapointment of a second round of a sound I truly came to love. Were TRAPT destined to drop the ball for commercialism? Would they become the next cop-out in the rock world? Would they break my confidence in my music future. Well, I remember the day I went to K-mart and bought SOMEONE IN CONTROL. I got home, went straight to my sound system and plugged it in. Anticipation. I was determined to merit each song on it's own achievement. By the ending chords of PRODUCT OF MY OWN DESIGN, I knew this CD was going up my charts. Needless to say it moved up to #7 of my all-time favorite CD's. I sometime's find it amazing when I see a review of a CD and all that's given out is 'well that song sounded too much like TRAPT'. And that song also. And that one, and that one. Oh my, now TRAPT is getting old and all the songs are sounding to much the same. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Well, I got news for you, these songs all DO sound like TRAPT, because they all are TRAPT. If a person were to only hear one song on this CD, they would like it. When the whole package of SOMEONE IN CONTROL comes together, it is truly a continuing work of art from a band that leaves me breathless in their lyrics and music. They leave no stone unturned and if SOMEONE IN CONTROL is any indication where TRAPT is headed, strap me in, I wanna be on this ride. Still waiting here for Vol. 3 TRAPT. At least there is a good chance you won't let me down. Individualism can be critisized, but it can't be duplicated. Bowl me over. I'm ready!!!Read full review
Great followup to TRAPT's debut album, it's worth getting and has no filler songs I'm really enjoy good song lyrics and Trapt's are enjoyable without being cheesy or overly cryptic my favorite track off the album is "Use me to use you" For a first listen i recommend "Stand up", "Waiting", "Lost realist" and "Use me to use you". The rest of the songs are great but these ones are just easy to pick up and enjoy immediately. The track I listen to least is "Product of my own design"
I saw these guys about two years ago and the came to Evansville, Indiana with Nickelback. They were one of the opening bands, sounded awesome! I imediately wanted their cd's. but couldn't find them. They recently returned to Evansville and I had to get the cd's to get them autographed! If you like nickelback you will like these guys! you need this cd!!! hurry! hurry! buy it now! :) keep on rockin! No3Fan4Life!
I admit that when I went looking for this CD, I was primarily looking for the song "Waiting"....you know the drill, I just want the one song, so why didn't I just download the MP3? The whole album is awesome, with tracks like Stand Up, Repeat Offender, Skin Deep, Disconnected, and more....plus the fact that when I ordered this CD, I received the self-titled CD as well that includes Headstrong, Hollow Man, New Beginning, Enigma and more.....Trapt has the right mix of raw and intelligence that delivers....turn it up to ride the riffs, and soak-in the message....my vote...Excellent!
CD looks great, like new! Good album. Trapt is kinda overlooked after "headstrong" and I think this and the first album are their best works. I love the old ad in the CD case advertising the ringtones, haha!
