These guys sound like theyre living in medieval times which makes me think this might be embraced by the renaissance fair crowd. A rather hauntingly beautiful quality to they're music reminded me of some gloomy rock from the 70's. "Head Home" is one of my favorite driving tunes now. You could buy this or any one of Cyndi Lauper's albums but then that would be alot different from Midlake so I'm not sure why you would do that. Whether your in the mood for something moody or just need a background while you eat a turkey leg and rewrap the leather straps on your battle axe you won't do much better.
I do not write reviews. I typically find them lame and don't take the time. This album is an exception. Easily in my top ten all time favorites - and that is a huge statement. I have never seen anything else be so universally liked by so many different types of music fans. It hits people from all tastes. Think Buckingham era Fleetwood Mac guitar, beautiful harmonies, great guitar hooks, intelligent lyrics. It is almost as if it is a great album from the 70's that got released 30 years later. I can't say enough good things. If you have given up on modern music, this is the one to bring you back.
I love this CD! It is very reminiscent of 70's era Jethro Tull. Lots of sweeping vocal harmonies, beautiful guitar lines. The lyrics and rhythm are very grounded. This cd really draws you in to it.
