I bought the first BOC album when I was 17 and very deep into hippiedom. I had never heard of Blue Oyster Cult before, I got it because I thought the album covers were cool (still do) I was used to partying to Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd etc. I was stoned as usual when I put on the BOC. From the first track to the last, I was taken aback. WHAT THE $@&* IS THIS??? It was that unique! The second one, not quite so much, but still very different. I suppose I was getting used to them. IMHO nothing they’ve put out since has the magic of those first two. Band member changes, I presume. I have MANY remasters from MFSL. They are the best by far. This release stands out from the rest, even for them. I know the songs by heart after wearing out 2 vinyl records. WOW, this is like hearing it for the first time, it’s that different. Maybe remixed as well as remastered, as there are some sounds and notes I’ve never noticed or heard before. It’s also much brighter and clearer, but maybe at the expense of the bottom end. The originals are a bit muddy; this is such a pleasant surprise! The 12 year old used MFSL copy I just got was not cheap, but after one listen, I would have paid three times as much. What a shame all of their releases don’t sound like this. There is one problem, but this sounds so good I’ll gladly live with it. The track order doesn’t match the listing, it’s totally screwed up. They’re in a random order, most annoying. All in all, buy this if you can find it, you won’t be sorry! FrankRead full review
As many of you know mobile fidelity sound labs are the best in the business when it comes to re-mastering classic albums. The record companies spend millions of dollars on advertising and public relations in yet they consistently put out CDs that just don't sound as good as they could. This CD is a perfect example of that. These first two blue oyster cult albums, as great as they are, needed a good treatment by mobile fidelity. I have heard these albums hundreds of times and when I put this disc in it was like I was hearing them for the first time. The drums are louder, the vocals are clearer, the guitar is sharper and the base booms. If you love oyster cult and you want the best possible sounding versions of these albums you have to buy this CD no matter how much it costs.
