Vanilla Fudge vacillated between rock, and the theatrical. With thi salbum they were heavily influenced by the Beatles - Sgt. Peppers. They also were influenced by and influenced the Rascalls, especially with thier album Once Upon a Dream - both this and the Fudge's Renaissance being soem of the most over produced and theatrical albums of the 60's. Even in the time we thought this was way over the edge on theatrical sweeping vocals dn organ swirls mostly for dramatic effec, but the whole album is worth it for one listen to Donovan's Season of the Witch, which the Fudge do the very best version of ever recorded. Lots of good stuff here, but you have to be in the mood for it as this was intended for you to think about and not just put on and rock out to. There ARE some good rock riffs, but the main thing is to put on the headphones and go into your head and take the ride - you will enjoy it.Read full review
