Notes
Don Preston is known as the keyboard player in Frank Zappa's original Mothers Of Invention, but that is only a small part of Don's history. Since the 1950s, Preston has played jazz, rock and experimental music with many well respected musicians in his career. Tracks with The Grandmothers, The Don And Bunk Show (with fellow MOI member Bunk Gardner), Don Preston's Akashic Ensemble, Frank Zappa (as sound engineer) and Meredith Monk are featured. 'Vile Foamy Ectoplasm,' a reinvented version of the CD originally issued in Germany in 1993, is an excellent collection of Don Preston's original works spanning from 1967 to 2001. It is also the first disc in a Crossfire Publications' series of his output. Don Preston is one of the best-known Moog synthesizer players in the world, and lots of tracks highlighting that instrument can be found here. Also included is Don's 15-minute tour de force 'Death Lights,' featuring members of The Mothers Of Invention and his father Donn Preston.
