This album is for those who enjoy music and appreciate the ability of artist to express themselves in multiple and unconvintional ways. Virgin Black does an outstanding job of combining a goth style metal with classical orchestra and symphonic style music. This album is very heavy on the orchestra side and gives you a deep dark mystical feel when you hear it. The guitars blend perfectly with the violen and piano and it flows together weaving a dark and somber atmosphere. Rowan London's vocals combined with those of the orchestra's music are clean and impressive and lend you the feel of metal twisted into the fabrics of the classical. This band put this album together without the assitance of a bank roll behind them. The cost of creating this album was paid for by the band members themselves. Its obvious its for the listners. I recommend this album for those who are fans of bands such as Kamelot, Within Temptation and 3rd And The Mortal. Also for those with an ear for music as an art rather than a stereo-type. I myself enjoy bands such as Cradle Of Filth and Dimmu Borgir to Black Label Society, OZZY and Deicide and now Virgin Black. I recommend this album highly. Rock on!!!!Read full review
Guitarist Samantha Escarbe said in a recent interview "...I always find last words difficult as I'm unsure to whom I'm speaking. I will assume they are to those who understand and embrace the music. If I could take each person's hand, and hold it against my heart, that gesture would be my words." In the band's third release, no words could be truer in terms of depth, emotion, and beauty, nothing can match this gargantuan release simply for the fact that so many circumstances in the band's personal lives (more specifically singer and songwriter Rowan London) that made this album real. Yes, to sum it up in one word, this album is real. To focus on one song would be preposterous as this album (a trilogy in the making) let alone any album should never be surgically dissected unless looking for personal meaning in a song. The opener "Requiem, Kyrie" remains the central theme both lyrically and musically throughout the series thus far and weaves us a tale of loss, death, yet rebirth through all of this. Rowan's gruff and terrifying vocals compliment the soprano and orchestra on this album, showing that the band knew what it was doing in implementing a sort of "Doom Choir" for this release. Although each song is dark in nature, there are moments of release from this whether it be the cry of "And I am Suffering!" in the track "...And I am Suffering" or the slow, steady release of liberation in "Rest Eternal", there has never been a more intimate release from Australian Musicians Virgin Black. ~Jake BrewRead full review
I have been waiting for the day this album was available. From the first two VB albums I was hooked. Requiem-Mezzu Forte is wonderfully written. It is soulful and intense while being gothicly melodic at the same time. This is definitely a triumph and a must have for any classical/metal music lover. I only wish that all three albums in the requiem series could have been released at the same time. I await their release with the same bated breath as I did this one.
Amazing CD, Midnights Hymn is simply amazing, if you've heard "drink the midnight hymn" from sombre romantic. The entire album is simply amazing, more classical than metal-- but the mixture is amazing. It creates the VB feel in previous installments by them. Amazing!!!
