The Heart of Everything is my favorite Within Temptation album, there isn't a weak song to be found. The band has grown into its promise here. Outstanding songs (my opinion) are Stand My Ground, Forgiven, Our Solemn Hour and The Cross. Many people are not aware of this band but it is one of the best rock bands in the world. If you are a rock fan and don't have this album - you are missing out. Go to You Tube and listen to them, and then go buy their albums. I drove over 800 miles (one way) to see them in concert - you can put in just a little effort can't you?

Within Temptation, along with the band Nightwish, is considered one of the founding bands of the genre, symphonic metal. While all of their other CDs are softer and more symphonic, with "The Heart of Everything"; the music became edgier. They still have a lot of symphonic qualities of course, but in this CD the metal became more bombastic. It seems in this album they focused more on some of the metal aspects in their music and tried harder to bring out that sound while still keeping the symphonic quality that they had in previous albums. So if you like Nightwish, you will like this new album from Within Temptation: or vise versa.
Most American rock fans have probably heard "What Have you Done" (WT's only chart maker in the US). Other favorites of mine from this disk are "Forgiven" "All I Need" and "Hand of Sorrow." ("Stand my Ground" is good too, but is a repeat from their last album.) A good showing from Within Temptation, and Sharon seems to have grown out of all of the more gimicky stylistic motifs that plagued "Enter" and "Mother Earth." I would definitely buy again, but my favorite WT album is still "The Silent Force."
