I originally found this album in a used cd section of the local record shop. I though I would give it a try, since it wasn't expensive. I took it home and it sat on top of a shelf for a few days before I saw it and took it out. Osborne has the soulful quality of a gospel singer with a little edge. Combined with the carefree lyrics (okay, so one song about St Theresa is a bit of a downer... there are times for those too), this instantly became one of my favorite albums. She has certain qualities that put her into the same category as Sheryl Crow (earlier albums) and Alannys Morisette (forgive my spelling on that one), but she is memorable in their company. I would highly recommend this one to anyone but the heavy metal fans. She won't catch them.
I should have bought this CD long ago but for some reason I did not. However, I'm pleasantly surprised that I finally did. In my opinion, "One of Us" is reason alone to own this disc. Add to that cut the many others fine tunes included in this effort and it is well worth the purchase price.

this is an album that I have always loved to listen to. Unfortunately it was misplaced. Now, I am delighted to have it again.

I bought the cd because I love the song 'Pensacola', after listening to the entire cd I found a couple of others on it that weren't bad. Joan Osborne is a fantastic singer but these selections weren't that appealing to me, would have liked a little more upbeat music. This is an older cd and a very popular one, from what I gather, so I guess plenty of people did like it.
