Jerry Goldsmith once said what other purpose does a film score serve if not driving the story? James Horner must have felt the same way. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is regarded among Trekkers as being one of the top (if not THE best) Star Trek films. If the story was crap, the only redeeming quality would have been the score. Luckily the story and visuals are as good as the sounds. This score is very similar to Goldsmith's score for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, with its blaring horns, light piano themes, and undertones of electronic synthesizes. It also stands out (along with Star Trek III) as one of the more powerful and bone chilling soundtracks in the Star Trek universe. This is a must have for any fan of the Star Trek series, or anyone who enjoys great modern/classical music. If you can find it, buy it!Read full review
I've been looking to replace most of my old vinyl LPs and this CD contains the equivalent music to one of them (at least to my ear as I remember it). Since my LP player hasn't worked in decades, this again allows me to enjoy this sound track.

I recently watched the film, and I remembered how much I love the soundtrack. This one is equal to the soundtrack for Star Trek I as beautiful symphonic music, with or without the visuals of the film. Music by James Horner.
