Notes
EMI MEYER International recording sensation Emi Meyer is a singer-songwriter and musician with talents that span countries and languages. Making her home in both the United States and Japan, the bilingual artist is a hit on both continents, creating and sharing beautiful thought provoking music in English and Japanese. Born in Kyoto, Japan, Emi moved to Seattle, Washington before the age of one. With training in classical piano, at the age of six, she expanded her range to jazz for improvisation and spontaneity. Emi found her "voice" while improvising and added poetry as a student of Ethnomusicology. Her background and education have served her well as she has amassed legions of fans spanning the Pacific, and along the way, releasing a robust collection of albums in both of her natural languages. Emi has received high critical and commercial recognition for her talent. She won the Seattle-Jazz Kobe Vocalist Competition in 2007 by performing her original work. In 2009, during one week, she had the distinction of being the MOST downloaded Single of the week on iTunes in Japan! Emi's debut album Curious Creature (2007) was self-produced and recorded in Seattle. Passport (2010), her second release, is a testimony to Emi's unique status as a bilingual and bicultural artist. With her release of Suitcase of Stones (2011), Emi returned as producer to combine 60's and 70's folk with jazz. Written while studying in Kyoto, these songs capture the light-heartedness of travel with the solemnity of memory. The LOL EP is a joyful interlude of duets with her friends, guitarist George Doering and singer-songwriter Albert Chiang, while she finishes work on her fourth studio album with acclaimed producer David Ryan Harris.
