I saw Guy Davis perform at a local Folk festival earlier this summer. He was one of several artists I had never seen or heard of before. Prior to the concert, I listened to all of the artists that would be performing on Amazon and You tube. After going to concert I was very impressed with several of the artists. Guy Davis was one. His singing and story telling are great. He is actually a blues artist, mostly styled on the old time blues singers. He has a tremendous voice. I do not know if this is his best album because it is the only one I have at present. I do plan to buy more. I would highly recommend this cd, or really any of his cds. He has a fresh sound and the more I listen the more I like. So, give yourself a present and buy one of his cds.
This cd rules, his Legacy title, produced earlier in his career,doesn't give you that warm and fuzzy feeling that ones searches so hard to find. Butt Naked Free is all about that feeling. One of the tracks, Sugar Bell Blue is written about a 15 year old girl that takes a shining to Mr. Davis. The lyrics are spectacular in this tune. This is my favorite cd, I can only hope that Mr. Davis can produce more like this one.
Guy Davis music, the blues are not stereotypically as often suggested- ' downer music'; on the other hand, I feel they're an estatic jump for joy. Davis' music emphasizes that the blues give America such an African character.

If you love the Blues or just happen to own any other copy of Guy Davis' cd's you'll love this cd too...include this cd in your collection...we are glad we did!We decided to buy it to add to our other ones by Guy Davis because we just saw him in concert recently and thought he was wonderful!
