Janet Klein's latest offering is melodic and charming. She has some of the best musicians backing her up on strings and brass I've ever heard, and plenty of quirky, obscure and forgotten material. The only thing that keeps me from giving this opus an excellent rating is her own untrained voice- she'll begin a note flat and then slide up to reach proper pitch, she has obvious breathing problems, etc. That said, this album would be worth listening to for the sterling musicianship it demonstrates, especially on the two pure instrumental numbers her band, the Parlor Boys, play. I recommend this album highly.
I beleive her 4th CD..... starts out with Hollywood Party to get you into the happy swinging mood ! Next Good Little, Bad Little You. Very good rythem and lyrics. My Favorite " How Could Red Riding Hood ? " Tells the real story here folks ! Then on to the middle of the songs with "Jersey Walk" and every ones favorite "Ballin' The Jack " If this does not get you tapping those feet, well you may just be dead ! (No Pun Intended). We move on to "True Blue Lou" a perfect Ballet, I beleive Ian Whitcomb sigs with Janet... Last song on the CD " Sing Me A Baby Song" a fine tune with Janet on the Ukelele... Many other's in between, Have to listen yourself and pick out your favorites.... Bet there will be more than one or two ! The combination of 1910, 1920, and 1930's are ideal for this performer and her Parlor Boys...... Take a listen ! Almost forgot theres a new CD out named just "Oh!" If you thought the others were good....Well your in for a treat !Read full review
