First, know that Jon Cleary is a national treasure. :) That having been said, this CD is a real good example of exactly WHY I seek out anything Jon Cleary performs on. Quality is top notch throughout and the "Absolute Monster Gentlemen" sidemen are exactly that. It's a rare performer that can convey a sense of relevance, humor and a thorough mastery of his instrument into a digital media...but Cleary seems to do this effortlessly. And FUNK? Did I mention FUNK? It's served up modern New Orleans style in a gumbo of talent, tone and taste. It picks up where typical retro funk, soul or old school R&B offerings dropped you off. If I appear to gush, I apologize,..but there have been few artists that offered anything to keep my interest in the past decade or so (The Ugly Americans of the mid '90s were another interesting, if abbreviated, example worth checking out). I'm not associated or related to Mr. Cleary...but if he ever wishes to drop by to play my Hammond B3, Wurlitzer 200B or Hohner D6 Clavinet...he's ALWAYS WELCOME!Read full review
