Classic collaboration between John Wayne and John Houston, set in the developing days of the old west shortly after the Indian up rising and defeat of General Custer at the Little Big Horn. John Wayne plays the lead as a aging & retiring Officer, placed in charge of teaching his young Lieutenants the experience of his years and what it takes to lead men into life threatening situations. All the time these 2 young bucks are fighting over the effections of the Post Commanders lovely young niece. Indian activity is at a fevers pitch, as John Wayne attempts to get the women to safety and protect the settlers for the indian threats. The movie culminates with the Old soldier trying to fend off an impending indian war, and his young officers coming of age. It is a classic among western movies with a great director, a great cast of likeable characters, tender and exciting plot lines, and the beautiful landscape of the southwest. It is a must see for the Western/Wayne buffs out there, and a great movie for the entire family to - you will not be disappointed.Read full review
Director John Fords frontier masterpiece boasts one of John Waynes best performances as a cavalry officer in his final week of service. As Capt. Nathan Brittles (Wayne) readies his troops for battle against an indian tribe, his soldiers become involved in a series of personal confrontations- especially when a lovely lady from the east visits the fort (Joanne Dru), and captures the attention of several of the young officers. Several good battle scenes, such as a patrol fighting off an indian attack are in this movie, which was the follow up to Fort Apache. The movie was an Academy Award winner in 1949, and will definitely give you a full night of entertainment. A must for collectors of John Wayne movies, lovers of westerns and classic movies.
She Wore a Yellow Ribbon is one of my favorite John Wayne films. Having it on DVD means I can see it any time I am in the mood. Great story; some actual history behind it. Love it.

How delightful to return to the era of The Old West without being subjected to disgusting language and ignorant visuals ! The Duke at his " Hey Pilgrim " finest .Lovely Joanne Dru was no Katherine Hepburn - but she certainly rode sidesaddle in along dress more graciously than the latter . ( Can you picture Hepburn with a yellow ribbon in her hair ?!!! ) We knew it was historically inaccurate and could have cared less ! A fine and joyful example of films that were entertaining and could be enjoyed by the entire family . One Third of Director John Ford's terrific Triolgy of Westerns .Great fun !
