I have owned and gamed forged blades for quite some time. I own a set of Titleist 681s which some consider the best blade ever made. The Mizuno MP 29s are every bit as good. They are gorgeous clubs, they set up beautifully and they offer second to none feedback and feel. The 681s have a bigger sweet spot but the one thing that the MP 29s have on the 681s is the laser like control. It took me about 50 balls at the range to get used to the new feel, flight and shot pattern. You will not believe how well and how long the ball will hold its line when you square it up. I normally hit a 5 yard draw with the 681s but with the MP 29s I have found that they fall maybe 1-2 yards to the left which translates into taking dead aim. The first round I played with them I shot 1 over for 9 holes (I shoot anywhere from 78-82 normally). The MP 29s and the 681s both have tremendous turf interaction, the club just glides through the grass. If you can find a decent set on eBay or elsewhere, pick them up. You can always get them regrooved and refinished down the road if need be. I am a believer. They are an outstanding blade.Read full review
It really did not take much for me to decide to buy one of the most tour proven irons ever made. Always wanted a set and Ebay provided the opportunity. The MP_29's reputation is built on extremely high quality, sleek looks, outstanding feel, and unquestioned performance that shotmakers live for. These irons which came to me quickly and in excellent condition lived up to the super hype! No wonder Tiger loved these clubs. The best forged club feel you can experience which gives you that extra confidence to shoot at the flag when you need it most. These irons were designed for good golfers and may not be for everybody, but they still can hold their own with anything new, and many think are the best sticks ever made. Talk to anybody who works on clubs for a living and they will set you straight. Even Mizuno doesn't make clubs with tolerances like this anymore. Probably why they cost so much in their day. So, try these ageless beauties out and find the golf "Nirvana" of iron play.Read full review
When you're ready to step up and get serious about this game, you're ready for Mizuno's mp-29s. The sweet spot isn't as small as you think. Just take them to the range for one session and you'll figure out how to maximize their power. With blades, it's all about angle of attack. When you hit one of these 29s on the sweet spot, it travels. You can hit 'em high or low, depending on your shot-making abilities. Whether you're a high or low handicapper, putting an mp-29 in your hand will force you to become better. Don't wait any longer-a used set of mp-29s won't set you back a mortgage payment. Get a set and explore your inner Tiger...It'll be worth it!
A wonderful blade iron. I own both MP29s and MP33s. Many people love the MP33s and I do too. However, I prefer the MP29s. The MP29s are a little heftier and I like that. I like the slightly stronger lofts on the MP29s but they still hit the ball surprisingly high for a blade. If like me, your misses tend to be thins, then the MP29s are the better club - slightly more mass low on the club. Mizuno blades with their grain flow forging have such great feel - you get great feedback on mishits and buttery smooth feel when you hit the sweetspot. If you love blade irons, you owe it to yourself to at least try these!
I am a low handicap player with a low to medium ball flight. I can make the ball do whatever I want with these clubs. Even when I don't hit it well I don't miss by much. I have played Titleist 962's, Ping Zing 2's, Ram FX Forged Muscle backs, & then back to the 962's. These clubs are easier to hit than you expect with a blade & give you much better feedback on mis-hits than game improvement clubs. You will be surprised at how dead on target good shots go. I guess what says the most about these clubs is, after I played these irons for a two monts I went out and bought another set, of the exact same clubs, just to make sure I always have a set of them on hand.
