If you are looking for a fully-managed 48-port Gigabit switch, this is your entry level model. It is my understanding that they started making these switches at least ten years ago (as of this writing in 2015); nevertheless, they support all the same features that I use on other switches on a regular basis. Console support makes it easy to build & manage hardware-independent base configurations via serial terminal or telnet, and provides an additional line of defense against "bricking" the switch via the boot menu. The down side: depending on the age of the hardware, the web interface may feel slow to respond, and individual ports can take a while to negotiate (especially with 10/100 devices), by today's standards. Also, as with other early Netgear 1U Gigabit offerings, the cooling fans run continuously at full speed--so it is best to install these switches away from where people are expected to work.Read full review
