The Hyperkin Retron console it self, not bad. I'd say a solid 4 star for what it is. You have to experiment with how the game fits in the teeth of the console in order to play. Some games are pop in and play. You have to use some force the get the game out cause the teeth are so tight. Another problem with the console is that even though the game my work fine, the game cartridge it self has no security. The game cartridge is exposed and wobbly. Meaning that with just a light tap on the game cartridge or if you lightly bump the console, what's on the screen will freeze or scramble and you have to hit the reset or power button(your choice) to play again. I got the white & red console and I have no complaints on the controllers. So far they work just fine. If Hyperkin where to make an update version of their Retron... I'd buy it too.Read full review

I read a lot of reviews about all the clone consoles before ending up with Retron 1. The most reviews were far better for this console than its competitors. And myself, I'm very happy with the product. Well, it works. I use it to play NTSC games in pal region -- i had to buy a new converter but the universal one worked just fine. Pros -It works just fine, is tiny and compact. -The controller, although different from the original nes controller, is actually a very functional pad. I use it as my primary pad now for RPG games and the like because its easier to browse through menus with it, but i still prefer the original for action games. Cons -Its so light it will easily fly away if there is a gust of wind around -I'm worried about how hard it grips the games. So far it hasnt done any damage at all to the connectors, and on the bright side the games always start on the first go, but I can imagine if I put the same cart a hundred times in and out either the connector in the console or in the game would get damaged. This is true to all the usual clone consoles around there I heardRead full review

This is a good clone console but I have a couple issues. First one is that the games sometimes won't fit in correctly and these lines will appear on the screen while I'm playing a game. I would have to push the cartridge as far back as I could and lodge something in the empty space for the lines to disappear, though this only happens on a few games it's still annoying. Second issue though is that the controllers are absolutely terrible. The d-pad is all mushy and the buttons don't feel right. I would highly recommend buying a seperate controller with this seeing as the d-pad is worse than the Xbox 360s. Despite the controller, this is a pretty good console and played all of the games that I threw at it.

The system plays the games just fine but the game cartridges are very difficult to get out. You have to pull rather hard to get them out because there is no release button. I almost feel like I'm going to break the system sometimes.
