Shure M44-7 has a big fat sound and high output! These were not DJ cartriges when they were out in the 6os . They were Hi Fi stereo with conical stylus. I like the sound and great tracking. I suspect due to this model being rugged they got popular for DJ Disco use.

I bought this for playing my old shellac 78 speed discs and I use specialist styli that are available from Naucks at the 78rpm website. The 44-7 is very suitable having high output and clarity for midrange and treble as well as tight bass. It is also very robust and has no trouble tracking very worn grooves of early 1900s discs. It mates well with the Rek-O-Kut turntable that is the gold star for those wanting a variable speed turntable for the erratic re9ording speeds of very early discs such as the Caruso recordings from the early 1900s. In short the Shure M44-7 is highly recommended.
