Our band needed a new sub for a gig but the coffers were low. We already had a crown Micro-Tec amp so we took a chance on this Rockville Passive 18Sub to save a little money. Boy were we pleasantly surprised. The subs are a perfect match for our Mackie mains and because we use the XAir18 we send out a sub mix to the amp and it sounds amazing. Needless to say we purchased a second sub and the sound we have is perfect with the drum kit and bass guitar. Even when we play music between sets the subs sound smooth and clear not muddy at all. If you pair these with a decent amp and a crossover (the crossover is a must) I think you will be hard pressed to find a better sounding speaker at this price point.

This sub is a bit on the small and light weight side. Thats not a bad thing for mobility, but heavier, denser wood, sounds better. It runs 4ohm which allows your amp to provide more power to it. The sound out of this is pretty big. When you factor in the price, the overall value of this thing is through the roof! The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is because it doesnt sound as good as a high end sub, but for the price of one high end sub you can outfit your setup with 8 of these and 2 amps to power them.

These days rock, pursuing it with a 1000 what power amp, crossover and comp/limiter, eq and the cabinets fell off the wall and my dog threw up the bass was insane. Have a six string bass with synthetic pick up, crazyyyyyyy!!!!!! Tom

If you have reasonable expectations, these are fine. Unlike a different reviewer who blew his up, I run enough power to get reasonable results. Low power and high expectations equals distortion- so pay attention to matching an amp and crossover to these subs and you'll be fine. Is it as good as the 'name brand' stuff? Kinda. The entry level Yamaha and Peavey stuff really has nothing on these except heavier cabinets. These cabinets are not super heavy duty, but I appreciate how light they are. They don't handle the very bottom range as well as the higher end subs- but compared to my powered JBL 18" they are very close- and less than 25% the cost of that JBL. A pair of these Rockvilles will lay down more bottom than a single JBL and the best part is that you have money left for a nice amp. I'm running Crest Audio 3.0DSP and can easily run a pair of these extremely well and the DSP provides for tuning crossovers and levels to finite detail. In a pinch, I even put the pair of subs on one channel at 2 ohms and my JBL mains on the other channel at 2 ohms and ran for three hours at high volume without even getting the amp warm. For the money- you can't do better and there's nothing wrong with lower end gear, just don't expect to abuse them with bad crossovers and low power and think they'll last. That being said, the cabinets alone are worth the price. I'll be swapping my drivers for the Rockville RVW1800P4 which will, by all accounts, make them pound mercilessly with higher power so I don't have to restrain my amp. Even with the speaker swap, I'll have less in a pair of these than my single active JBL- by far- and the pair of these rattle your spleen better than the JBL does.Read full review

It has an 18-in subwoofer but more importantly all of the right connections in the back, I haven't tried it out with my Crown amplifier yet but I'll be more than happy to update if able.
